Civic offices crucial for plan success |
 Bosses at Telford's largest conference and exhibition venue say new civic offices and library facilities are a key component of the town’s multi-million pound Southwater development. The Southwater Event Group, which owns The International Centre, Telford, has already started work on its own project to create a new events suite on site. And their development is progressing alongside the £250 million project to create a convention quarter in the Southwater area of the town, with the new civic offices/library facilities at its heart. Chief Executive Tom Gray said: "We've worked in partnership with Telford & Wrekin Council, the Homes and Communities Agency, and Advantage West Midlands to bring this development to life. "These facilities, coupled with our ongoing investment in our venue, will mean we can compete more effectively at a national and international level, and will help to create new jobs and new investment opportunities." The work on The International Centre site will create a new events suite to cater for up to 1500 delegates, together with five new syndicate rooms, and despite the challenging winter weather, the project is on schedule for completion by July. Tom said: "Our ambition is to cement The International Centre’s position as one of the finest events venues in the UK, and we’re very pleased the development is progressing so well with the steelwork now in place. "We already have over 11,000sq m of flexible events space, and we're looking forward to unveiling our very latest facilities in just a few months' time. "Given the challenges of the weather over the last few months, it’s excellent news that the new event suite will be completed and available for our customers to use from July onwards." |
